Airsoft Canada (airsoftcanada.ca) is run by IAPZ Technology Inc., a Canadian corporation ("we", "us"). This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. It follows Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act.
What we collect
- Your account: your full name, username, email address and password (stored only in a scrambled form we can't read). If you sign in with Google, Google gives us your name and email address.
- Your profile, if you add it: pictures, an About me, your city and province, your Discord name and links to your social accounts.
- What you post: Marketplace ads and their photos, events, articles, Community posts and comments, reviews, and the clubs, teams and businesses you manage.
- Private messages you send and receive, and their pictures.
- Payments: when you buy a plan or an extra, our payment processor (Stripe) collects your card and billing details. We never see or store your card number; we keep a record of what you bought and what was paid.
- The newsletter: your email address, and when and how you agreed to receive it.
- Technical information: your IP address, browser and device, used to keep you signed in, protect accounts (for example by slowing down repeated wrong passwords), and stop spam.
What other people can see
Your username is shown wherever you take part. Your full name and email address are never shown to other members. What you choose to post (ads, events, articles, posts, comments and reviews) and the profile details you add are visible to others; your Discord name and organizations' phone numbers are shown to signed-in members only. Private messages are seen only by the people in the conversation (for an organization's inbox, its Owners, Managers and Staff), and by our staff when needed to keep the site safe, for example after a report.
How we use it
- To run your account and show what you post.
- To keep the site safe and fair: screening for spam, scams and look-alike links, checking new and edited Marketplace ads against our rules (automatically first, with a person when needed), handling reports, and locking accounts that break our rules.
- To send you emails about your account, your ads and events, messages and notifications. You can turn notification emails off in your settings; emails about your account and payments are always sent.
- To send you the newsletter, only if you agreed, as Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) requires. Every newsletter has a link to unsubscribe.
- To take payments, keep tax records, and meet our legal obligations.
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
Cookies
We use a few cookies the site needs to work: one that keeps you signed in, one that remembers which account you're working in (yourself, or a club or business you manage), and a few that remember choices such as cards or list view. We don't use cookies for advertising or to follow you around other websites.
Who we share it with
We use trusted service providers to run the site. They handle your information only to provide their service to us:
- Stripe, for payments, taxes and receipts.
- Google, if you choose to sign in with Google.
- Cloudflare, to store pictures and files.
- DigitalOcean, to host the site and its database.
- Resend, to send our emails.
- Anthropic, whose AI reads the text and photos of Marketplace ads to check them against our rules. It isn't used to train their AI.
- YouTube (Google), when a page shows a YouTube video, and OpenStreetMap, which draws the event map.
Some of these providers store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be accessible to authorities under the laws there. We also share information when the law requires it, or to protect people's safety.
How long we keep it
- Your account and what you post are kept until you delete them or ask us to delete your account.
- Marketplace ads that are sold, removed, rejected or expired, and their photos, are deleted for good 120 days after they close.
- Payment and tax records are kept as long as tax law requires.
- If you unsubscribe from the newsletter, we keep a note that you did, so we don't email you again.
Your choices and rights
You can see and change most of your information in My account. You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, withdraw your consent to the newsletter or other optional uses, or ask us to delete your account. Some things, such as payment records, we must keep. To ask, use Contact Us.
If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
Young members
You must be at least 13 to have an account, and members under 18 need a parent's or guardian's permission. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13; if we learn we have, we'll delete it.
Keeping it safe
We protect your information with secure connections, scrambled passwords, private storage for message pictures, and access limited to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach puts you at real risk of significant harm, we'll tell you and the privacy commissioner as the law requires.
Changes
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed, and we'll let members know about important changes.
