The snow is still chest-high up north, but the calendars are out, the contracts are written, and the props are being built. We brought back Andrew Mitchell of Worst Case Ontario to share how a small, scattered crew runs big-feeling MILSIMs that actually flow—tight planning, clear roles, and rules that sharpen play instead of clogging it.

We talk through the backbone of their events: in-person design sessions for missions and rules, daily comms to keep momentum, and defined owners for sponsors, tech, and timelines. Then we get into the fun stuff. This season they’re capping medics across an entire side, encouraging quiet “hit” behavior to boost immersion, and limiting each team to a single drone operator with time-boxed flights and counters. The goal is fewer sky-cams and more decisions that matter on the ground. NPCs return with purpose, too—think a DMV clerk who controls your vehicle plates and a hardware storekeeper ready to defend his turf—plus mission props that players can lift, haul, and swear about, from rice sacks to a scratch-built “artillery” piece that booms without risking safety.
